The African inspiration, seen in the variety of textures, intricate carvings and natural elements is combined with classical decor pieces to create a unique visual feast. Handmade wooden chandeliers are brought to life by the sparkle of crystal. Raw, textured and natural fibre fabrics are combined with worn leather and soft suede. Lizard printed metallic fabrics add a touch of contemporary fun and luscious velvets a sense of opulence.
At Palala Boutique Game Lodge and Spa, bars, lounges and other gathering spots are in abundance and serve multiple purposes. More than mere watering, guests can simply relax with a good book or gather together in groups to discuss the events of the day. The glass-enclosed dining and lounge areas with retractable doors open to the adjoining veranda and provide panoramic views of the waterway by day, and thousands of stars in the clear skies by night.
Our renowned Matoppie Restaurant boast award-winning chefs and guests can enjoy rustic and relaxed lunches during the day or watch the transformation of the menu and restaurant into a fine dining delight at night.
Lounge
The lounge area, beautifully decorated in rich fabrics and hues, boasts flat screen televisions, several sitting areas, two cosy fireplaces and a bar with cappuccinos station. During colder days, guests enjoy snuggling by the fire, enjoying their latest novels and a prize winning glass of local wine. During the warmer seasons, the retractable doors open onto the wide veranda allowing the cool breeze to gently create a welcoming oasis. The coffee tables boast an impressive array of books of interest on local fauna and flora and a variety of board games are available on request. But whatever the mood, simply relax and reflect on the day’s activities while getting lost in the breath-taking bushveld surroundings and the abundance of bird and wild life on display.
Oryx
The sophisticated conference venue, Oryx, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and available for conferences or lavish banquets.
The modern interior is perfectly paired with raw wooded tables to ensure a fresh look and unique atmosphere at every banquet. All the necessary conference equipment is available and our team of professional events coordinators will ensure the venue is prepared according to your individual requirements.
The Terrace
The wide veranda, at the front of the lodge, overlooks the waterway and with its neighbouring bar has become the social hub of Palala Boutique Game Lodge. Relaxing in the infinity pool is a welcome retreat after a hot day in the bush and for the famished, indulge in our exciting terrace menu with gourmet sandwiches, burgers or mouth-watering curries. Guests are thrilled by watching the hippos graze on the banks of the river whilst spotting various other game species throughout the day. The roar of lions or the cry of the fish eagle will heighten your encounter with the African bush. The spectacular, colourful allure of the sunset brings guests together on the deck for a refreshing nightcap and endless photographic opportunities while the day’s adventures are recalled.
Oom Dup se Witgatwortel Lapa
Let down your hair and kick off your hiking shoes when you enjoy a true African dining experience in our Lapa setting after a long hot day in the bush. Here guests can enjoy long cocktails and casual dining from the bar, watch the Saturday rugby match or enjoy a game of pool. Young guests will be spoilt for choice in the play room fitted with all the mod cons to cater for their every desire. Illuminated by firelight and starry skies, diners will enjoy the diverse and tasteful cuisine complemented by authentic traditional flare such as potjies, braai’s and wood oven pizzas. With the African night sky overhead and a crackling bonfire before you, all that is left to do is relax and forget about all the demands and confines of the concrete jungle.
The Island
The island brings a unique and interesting element to the diversity Palala has to offer. The island is situated in the waterway in front of the lodge and is an ideal and exclusive venue for a myriad of possibilities such as romantic picnics, wedding ceremonies, entertainment area for your wedding guests, team building events, birthday parties, and so much more. Due to the setting, it creates the perfect back-drop to breath-taking photo opportunities and birding enthusiasts particularly enjoy it for the vast bird sighting prospects.
Fly in
Palala Boutique Game Lodge has a registered airstrip as well as two helipads for guests to use.
The airstrip is 1200m long and has a compacted gravel surface with 150m paved at the beginning and end of the runway.
Guests are to advise the hotel of their arrival time as the airstrip is a 5 minute drive from the hotel and provision will need to be made for the collection and drop off of guests.
The two helipads are situated at the hotel for your convenience.

Spaza shop
Palala’s spaza is the ideal retreat for guests looking to enjoy some retail therapy. The Spaza shop offers guests all the necessities that they may need on their trip as well as gift items, memorabilia, safari clothing and art pieces.
The spaza shop is open daily between 11h00 and 15h00.
